Selling add-on services and products to clients is good business and usually extra value for clients, however, recently upselling has become a new cunning marketing technique used by some ‘Dodgy’ Practitioners that reeks of an entrapment fraud. A deceitful practice the NZCTWA condemns
It is deliberately advertising an unprofitable low cost, then once the client is the chair, intentionally ‘up-selling’ them to a more expensive service, sometimes 300% more than you thought it was going to cost you.
For example, you may see teeth whitening advertised for say $89, then once in the chair you get told that the treatment you bought is unsuitable for the level of staining in your teeth, instead you need the $499 treatment to get your teeth to their whitest
