Gel Strength Myth.
Just because a whitening gel has a higher Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) percentage does not make it whiten any better.
Hydrogen Peroxide is simply Hydrogen Peroxide. It does not have a strength percentage.
So why do Whitening Gels have a HP% like 6%HP or 12HP% ?
OSMO™ 6% simply means there is 7.5% Hydrogen peroxide by weight added to a Glycol carrier gel & stabilisers. Then mixed with a catalyser that dilutes the overall formula to what is known as 6% HP Whitening Gel.
MAXIBRITE™ 12% is the same, being there is 15% Hydrogen peroxide by weight added to a Glycol carrier gel & stabilisers. Then when mixed with a catalyser it dilutes to 12%HP Whitening Gel.
The Hydrogen Peroxide remains EXACTLY the same. Only the weight % of Hydrogen Peroxide in the overall formula changes.
That is why Tooth Bleaching is based upon the gels EFFICACY rather than HP%.
EFFICACY is the whitening Gels ability to cause a desired effect.
Efficacy is a whitening system combination based upon NINE critical factors:
1/ HP% by weight within the formula,
2/ Whether the HP is catalytically activated, (dual barrel syringe)
3/ The degree that the HP is hyper-photo excited after mixing with an activation catalyst.
4/ Heat* – usually a slight warmth from the light head.
(cold-blue light is old technology)
5/ Strength of the Luminance (Lux) radiance from light head
6/ The Whitening accelerator lights light frequency measured in nanometers. Usually between 480-520 nm being just below UV works best.
7/ The time the gel is upon the teeth.

Both the Beyond Polus Advanced, and Beyond II light Accelerator devices incorporate new High power, Low heat LED technology, rather than old technology ‘cold blue light’ LED.

Note: All higher HP% strength gels do is increase the risk of sensitivity, gum blanching, gum irritation and swollen lips.
